Auto Updater documentation

The complete guide to installing, setting up and using UAU on your WordPress site.

Plugin version 1.7.13 from Oct 14, 2026 14 sections 20 real screenshots of the panel Português · English · Español

1. Introduction

Auto Updater helps you install and update items in WordPress. Start free to protect WordPress.org updates. A paid plan also gives you premium catalog access. The item’s files are saved before updating.

What is new since version 1.6:  the panel has a new design, with a sidebar and a dark theme (section 4). It adds the Catalog, to search and install without leaving the panel, Template Kits, notifications, the My plan screen, the timeline and reports in Logs and, in 1.7.5, an email summary of all your sites.
Enable protection. In the plugin, click Enable protection. This installs WP Recovery Agent and allows the item’s files to be restored if a check detects a failure.
RequirementMinimum version

The current list of supported items is on the supported items page.

2. Installation

Download the plugin from the product page: Ultrapack Auto Updater. Then pick one of the methods below.

Method 1: from the WordPress dashboard

  1. Upload the ZIP

Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and select the .zip you downloaded.

  2. Install

    Click "Install Now".

  3. Activate

Click "Activate". On Multisite, use "Network Activate".

Method 2: manual install (FTP)

  1. Unzip the file

    Unzip the file you downloaded.

  2. Upload the folder

Over FTP or your file manager, upload the ultrapack-auto-updater folder to wp-content/plugins.

  3. Activate

In the dashboard, go to Plugins and activate Ultrapack Auto Updater.

Right after activating:  open the Ultrapack Auto Updater menu and click Enable protection in the notice at the top. That installs WP Recovery Agent and turns updates on. The next step is connecting the site to your account, in section 3.

3. Connect your site

For the premium catalog, connect the plugin to your account with the token, the code available in Manage sites. Free mode does not need this connection.

UAU Settings screen with the site connection, license and environment
Settings: site connection, preferences to take to other sites, license and environment.
  1. Create the token

On Manage sites, in your account, create and copy your token.

  2. Paste and save

In the Site connection card, paste the value into the token field and click Save token. The card then shows Connected, with your site domain and its status right below.

  3. Authorize the domain, if needed

If the domain does not show as authorized, register it on Manage sites (see Registering sites and the site limit, below), copying the site URL straight from the browser. Then go back to the panel and reload the screen.

CardWhat it shows
Site connectionThe token (masked, with the eye icon to check it), the domain and whether it is authorized. Disconnect removes the token from this site.
Take your preferences with youExport settings saves this site’s settings to a file, and Import settings applies that file on another site. The token and the SMTP password are never included.
Your licensePlan, account, expiry date, domain status and catalog downloads used today. Manage my account opens your account on the site.
EnvironmentWordPress, PHP and plugin versions, and whether automatic recovery is on. It is the first thing support asks for.
Important:  keep your token safe, since it gives access to your account downloads. On Manage sites there is a Reset token button: it invalidates the old token, and any site still using it stops updating until it gets the new one.

Registering sites and the site limit

Each domain must be authorized before it gets updates. UAU counts active domains, and each plan has its own limit. Regular sites and WordPress Multisite networks count against separate limits. How many slots you use shows on My plan, and everything is managed on Manage sites.

The system also detects on its own when a domain registered as a regular site is actually a Multisite network. The row gets a notice and a Migrate to Multisite button. If the detection is wrong, use Contest and the team reviews it; meanwhile the row shows "Contest pending".

Site statusWhat it meansAction
AuthorizedReady to receive updatesNone
PendingWaiting for the domain to be approvedWait
BlockedMisuse detected, or the plan limit was exceeded when the site was registeredContact support
  1. Enter the domain

On "Manage sites", enter the domain and select "Is it a Multisite?" if it is a network.

  2. Submit it for authorization

Click "Register new site". The site comes in as Pending.

  3. Wait for authorization

With the site Authorized and protection enabled, choose your items and update schedule in the plugin.

Need more sites than your plan allows?  there is the Extra Sites add-on, yearly or lifetime, for 1, 3 or 5 more sites, without changing plans. It applies to regular sites.

4. A tour of the panelNew

Once activated, the plugin gets its own WordPress menu item, Ultrapack Auto Updater. Everything happens inside it, in a panel with a sidebar. Switching screens does not reload the page, and a screen you already opened comes back instantly, with its search and filters as you left them.

HeaderThe screen path, the connection status with Ultrapack, the notifications bell and the button that switches between light and dark themes.
FooterReport a problem opens a support ticket already filled in with the site details. With White Label on, it goes to the contact you set up.
More room for the panel:  on the plugin screens the WordPress menu opens collapsed, and notices from other plugins and from WordPress itself are hidden. Auto Updater’s own notices still show.

Dark theme

The moon button in the header switches the panel to the dark theme, and your choice is remembered in the browser. Reports in Logs follow the dark colors on screen and still print on white.

Notifications

The bell in the header opens your notifications. They bring new versions of the items you follow (the Follow button on an item’s details in the Catalog) and the answers to your Requests. A dot on the bell means there is something unread. The All, Following and Requests filters separate the two kinds, and Mark as read clears the dot.

5. Manager

The Manager shows installed catalog items, their versions and available updates. Choose which ones UAU can update.

UAU Manager screen with the protection summary and the item list
  1. Find the item

Use the All, Updates and Up to date filters, or the search box. Check, at the top of the screen, asks the server right away.

  2. Click "Update"

The plugin saves the item’s files, updates it and checks that the site responds. If it detects a failure, it restores the previous copy.

  3. Turn on auto updates per item

The switch in the Auto Updates column decides whether that item is part of automatic updates.

Item details and previous versions

The … button at the end of each row opens the item details: installed version, developer, WordPress status, who updates the item (Ultrapack or WordPress), original license protection and the security badge.

Below that are the Previous versions: snapshots saved on this site and older versions from our server, each with Install version. That is how you roll back one specific item, besides the Snapshots screen.

Item details panel in the UAU Manager

Updating several at once

Items with a new version get a checkbox. Once you select them, Update selected appears: they are updated one at a time, in list order, with progress on screen. Keep the screen open while the queue runs. Items with an original license are left out of bulk selection on purpose, since each one asks for confirmation.

Security check badge

Items whose package passed our virus scan show the Verified badge. Click it to see the files scanned, how many were flagged as suspicious, the engine used, the date and the package SHA-256. When the available scan is for another version, the badge changes to Other version and tells you which version it refers to.

The scan covers the package we distribute, done before publishing. It does not replace an antivirus on your server.
Updating from the WordPress Plugins screen:  that works too. Updating a catalog item from the Plugins or Updates screen, or through WordPress automatic updates, first saves the previous version and restores it if the site responds with an error. The result shows in Logs, just like an update made from the panel. The View version details link shows the item’s changelog, when there is one.

Original license protection

If an item is installed with the author’s official license, replacing it with the catalog version may invalidate that license and stop the official updates. That is why UAU warns you and lets you decide:

  • In automatic updates, a protected item is never replaced. It is skipped and the reason is logged.
  • In the WordPress updates list, the Ultrapack version is not offered, so the author’s official update keeps showing.
  • In the Manager, the item shows the original license padlock and is only updated by Ultrapack after you confirm.

Each item has three states, set from the padlock on its row or from the item details:

StateEffect
AutomaticAutomatic protection is disabled by default. Use Always protect for items that use an original developer license.
Always protectProtects the item from UAU updates until you explicitly allow replacement.
Never protectAllows UAU to update the item. Use only when you want to replace it with the catalog version.

Item blocked after an update error

When an update fails because of a faulty package, UAU does not keep retrying in a loop: it blocks that item, removes the update from the list and shows a support contact button with the error message already filled in. Both checks that stop the package happen before installing, so the live version stays intact:

  • Version mismatch: the item is announced as one version and the package contains another.
  • File differs from what was announced: the SHA-256 of the downloaded file does not match the published one. The package is discarded and we are notified.
  • The wait grows with each failure in a row on the same version: 1 hour, then 6 hours, and on the third the version goes into quarantine. A new version releases the item on its own.
  • With White Label on, the contact points to the reseller’s support channel.

The Catalog brings the Ultrapack catalog into the panel: search, filter and install plugins and themes without downloading a ZIP. It has four tabs: Explore, Favorites, Collections and Requests.

UAU Catalog with search, filters and item cards
  • Plugins and themes: the All items, Plugins and Themes tabs show how many items each one has. The segment filter follows the tab and only lists categories that have items of that type.
  • Developers: the filter has a search box and accepts several developers at once.
  • Sort by: recently added, recently updated, most downloaded or name. Next to it, grid or list view. Each page shows 24 items.
  • Category on the card: it is a link that filters the Catalog by that category.
  • Full packages: themes and plugins delivered as the author’s full package, such as Avada, Betheme and Flatsome, also install from the Catalog.
Download quota:  the Downloads today counter at the top of the screen shows how much of your plan’s daily quota you have used. Each install from the Catalog, and each template kit, uses 1 download from that quota, the same one as the download button on the site. It is separate from the automatic updates cap. When the quota runs out, the panel warns you before you click.

Item details

Clicking an item opens its details in the panel: description in your language, developer, version, size, file type, antivirus scan and the release date.

The History tab lists previous versions with what changed in each, and My notes keeps your private notes on the item. The Follow button sends the item’s new versions to your notifications.

Installing several at once

With Select items, tick the items on the cards and review the queue. The screen shows how many downloads will be used and how many are left for the day. Start installation installs the queue.

  • Plugins installed in a batch stay deactivated until you activate them. Themes are never activated.
  • A Catalog plugin that takes the site down when activated is deactivated automatically, and the panel tells you which one.
  • If it needs another plugin that is missing or inactive, it stays installed but inactive, and the panel tells you which one is missing.

Favorites

The heart on a card saves the item to Favorites. By default they are kept on this site, separately for each user. Turn on Sync with site favorites and the tab uses your Ultrapack account favorites instead, the same ones as the Favorites page on the site.

Collections

A collection is a named set of plugins and themes, such as "Online store" or "Business site", to set up your next site in one go. You can create, edit, duplicate and install a whole collection. Share exports it as a code or a file, and Import collection brings it into another site or for another user.

Collections are stored on this site. To use the same collection on another site, share it and import it there.

Requests

Could not find a plugin or theme? In Requests, enter its name, the developer link and, if you like, how you plan to use it. Each request gets a protocol number and shows in the list next to the form, with its progress.

When the team answers, the reply arrives in your notifications. Additions are subject to review.

7. Template KitsNew

Template Kits installs ready-made Elementor page kits straight from the catalog, with their images, required plugins, colors and fonts. You do not need the Template Kit Import plugin. Installing a kit uses 1 download from the daily quota.

KitsWho gets them
Elementorism (CSSIgniter)Any active plan

On a plan without the Extras, the screen compares your plan with Developer. "View the kits in my plan" goes to the kits you already have.

In the Installed tab, each kit opens with its templates and three actions: Import all sends the templates to the Elementor library; the Plugins this kit uses list installs and activates whatever is missing; and Apply the kit’s styles turns the kit’s colors and fonts into the site’s Elementor globals, which you can undo later. Delete kit removes the kit from the site. The heart on the card saves the kit to favorites.

8. Auto Updates

UAU has its own automatic updates, independent of WordPress settings: even with WordPress automatic updates turned off, Ultrapack items keep being updated. Everything lives on the Auto Updates screen, saved with Save preferences.

The Automatic updates switch at the top only turns on with WP Recovery Agent installed. If it is locked, that is what is missing.

The right column shows the Next check and the steps of each update (snapshot, update, check, done), Protection at every step (WP Recovery Agent, snapshot before updating, package validation and site response check) and the Self-repair card. Which items are updated automatically is decided in the Manager, one by one. How automatic updates work, at the bottom of the screen, sums up the levels and what is never automatic.

The time is a floor, not a clock:  WordPress only runs scheduled tasks when the site gets a visit, or when a server cron is set up. On a low-traffic site, the check happens from the chosen time onward.
Auto-updater daily cap:  automatic updates have their own cap, up to 25 items per site and 50 per account, per day, separate from your plan’s download quota. If a cycle hits it, the item is not marked as failed: the log says the limit was reached and pending updates move to the next cycles, after the day rolls over.

Email noticesNew

Email notices work at two levels: each site, in the plugin, and your account, on Manage sites.

On the site: in Auto Updates, open Email notifications. The Send a report by email switch sends a notice after every check, with what was updated and what failed. It comes off and, since version 1.7.5, off means the site sends no email at all. That card also holds the recipient and how to send: through WordPress (wp_mail) or your own SMTP, with a connection test.

Email notifications card open on the Auto Updates screen

On your account: on Manage sites, the Email notifications card sets how you get notices from all your sites:

  • One email per update or error, sent by each site (default): each site follows its own switch, above.
  • Summary of all sites, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 12 times a day, or every hour: Ultrapack puts everything that was updated or failed across all your sites into a single email, and your sites stop sending an email for each update. The first summary goes out at 8 a.m. Brasília time (UTC-3), and the rest at even intervals. A period with no activity sends no email.
The summary needs version 1.7.5 or newer on each site, and it is sent in the language of the page where you made the choice.

WP Recovery Agent

It is the extra safety layer. If an update makes the site unreachable, the agent recovers the site, even when WordPress itself has crashed, and the administrator gets an email explaining what happened and what was recovered.

It takes one click to start:  the agent is a Must-Use (MU) plugin and needs your consent the first time. Until it is installed, the notice shows at the top of the screens and updates stay off. Click Enable protection to install it. After that it keeps itself up to date.

The installed version shows under Protection at every step, on the Auto Updates screen. The Self-repair card holds the Deactivate the faulty plugin switch, on by default: when a fatal error appears, the plugin causing it is deactivated so the site comes back. Themes are not deactivated, only reported by email. With the switch off, the agent still recovers the site but does not deactivate anything on its own.

9. Snapshots

Copies on this site save files before an update. Previous catalog versions are files you can download or reinstall, according to your access.

A snapshot is a copy of a plugin or theme saved before each update. The Snapshots screen lists the available copies, newest first, with version, size and origin (manual or automatic update), and shows how much space they take. Restore brings the item back to that version, and Remove deletes the copy.

UAU Snapshots screen with the available copies and preferences
PreferenceWhat it doesDefault
Mandatory snapshotsNo update starts without the copy in place. Turning it off asks for a double confirmation, since the site loses automatic rollbackOn
Remote legacy versionsOffers previous versions kept on our server, besides this site’s copiesOn
Retention (days)How many days copies are kept4
Maximum per itemHow many copies of each item are kept2
The newest copy of each item stays protected for 24 hours, even if the retention is shorter.
What gets rolled back:  snapshots keep the plugin and theme files. Changes a new version made to the database may need manual attention, and your full site backup still needs to include the database.

10. White Label

For resellers and agencies: White Label replaces the panel’s identity with yours, and a live preview next to it shows the result while you edit. Switch on Turn on White Label and save with Save identity; Restore defaults undoes everything. With it on, no Ultrapack branding shows anywhere in the panel, not even the WordPress menu icon, and the plan renewal notice disappears, since whoever runs the end client’s site does not manage the subscription.

Login and barYour brand outside the panel: logo, link and colors on the WordPress login screen, and your brand in the corner of the admin bar
AdvancedRestrict this page to one user, so only they can see and edit White Label, and custom CSS scoped to the plugin
Customization is visual only: updates, protection and technical identifiers stay the same. The contact channel for blocked items and Report a problem become yours.

11. Logs

The Logs screen has two tabs. In Activity, the Timeline records updates, restored versions, automatic recoveries, Catalog installs, template kits and settings changes, with who did it and when. Filters separate successes, warnings and failures, and you can search by event or item.

Timeline on the UAU Logs screen
  • Technical log: the detailed messages from the last 24 hours, below the timeline, for support. They are only recorded with Detailed logs on. Clear technical log asks for confirmation.
  • Copy logs and Download logs give you the log with the site and version in the header, ready to send to support.
  • Share diagnostics, under Logging preferences, sends technical data about update failures, with nothing from the site’s content. It comes on and can be turned off there.

Reports for your client

The Reports tab builds a summary for the end client: completed updates, backups taken, upcoming updates and the latest improvements, with your brand in the header. Pick a month or the last 7 or 30 days and use Print / save PDF.

12. My planNew

The plan card at the bottom of the sidebar opens My plan: your access, what it includes and how much of it you have used today.

UAU My plan screen with access, today’s downloads and account sites
  • Your Ultrapack account: plan, connected account and access expiry date, with Manage my account and Connection details.
  • Catalog downloads today: the daily quota used by the Catalog and Template Kits.
  • Account sites: how many of your account site slots are in use, as numbers only, with a shortcut to Manage sites. This site shows whether the domain is authorized.
  • What protects this site and Next check: the features turned on here and when the plugin looks for updates again.
Renewal:  close to the expiry date, Manage my account turns into Renew access. The notice starts 30 days before on yearly plans, 15 on quarterly and half-yearly plans and 7 on monthly plans, and it does not show with White Label on. What is already installed stays on the site, with or without an active plan; renewing keeps access to new downloads and updates.

13. Compatibility

UAU works with the vast majority of WordPress plugins and themes and is tested up to WordPress 7.1. We do not recommend running another third-party updater plugin alongside it, to avoid conflicts in the update system.

  • Child themes are not offered for automatic updates, so your customizations are never overwritten.
  • Items with the author’s own updater built in keep working. You decide who updates them, through original license protection.
  • Plugins with extra text after the version number, such as the tagDiv plugins, are no longer offered again right after updating (fixed in 1.7.4).
  • Multisite is supported with network activation. Options live in the network admin, and the plan’s multisite quota is separate from regular sites.
  • Language: the plugin follows the WordPress language, in 17 languages. Any untranslated phrase shows in the original language, and the rest of the screen stays translated.

14. Troubleshooting

My site is "Pending" and does not update
Sites come in as Pending until the domain is authorized. Check Manage sites; if it takes too long, open a support ticket.
Site "Blocked"
It happens when misuse is detected (for example, too many domains). Use Report a problem, in the panel footer, to contest it.
"Site limit reached"
You registered more sites than your plan allows; usage shows on My plan. Remove a site you no longer use, get the Extra Sites add-on or upgrade.
Updates do not run, and nothing shows
Check in this order: (1) the WP Recovery Agent not installed notice at the top of the panel; (2) whether Automatic updates are on in Auto Updates; (3) whether a pause is active; (4) whether the domain is Authorized in Settings; (5) whether the item has its Auto Updates switch on in the Manager.
I no longer get an email for each update
Since version 1.7.5 the Send a report by email switch really applies, and it comes off. Turn it on under Auto Updates → Email notifications on each site, or choose the summary of all sites on Manage sites. If your account is on the summary, sites do not send an email for each update: that is expected.
The Catalog says the download quota ran out
Catalog installs and template kits use your plan’s daily download quota, the same one as the site. It resets the next day; usage shows on My plan. Automatic updates have their own cap and do not use this quota.
A plugin installed from the Catalog stayed deactivated
Three possible reasons: it was installed in a batch (batch plugins stay deactivated until you activate them); it took the site down when activated and was deactivated automatically; or it needs another plugin that is missing. In the last two cases the panel names the plugin, and the event is on the timeline.
An item disappeared from the updates list
It was probably blocked because of a package error and stays off the list for a while, longer with each failure in a row. See Item blocked after an update error and use the contact button, which already includes the error description.
The item asks for confirmation and mentions an original license
That is original license protection. If you use the author’s official license on that item, keep it protected. If the mark is wrong, switch it to "Never protect".
My site is Multisite and its row shows a notice
The system detected a Multisite network on a domain registered as a regular site. Use Migrate to Multisite on Manage sites, or Contest if the detection is wrong.
"Daily download limit reached" appeared
It is the auto-updater daily cap (up to 25 items per site and 50 per account, per day), separate from your plan’s download quota. It is not an update failure and nothing was lost: pending items move to the next cycles, after the day rolls over.
The update stopped saying the file does not match
UAU compared the downloaded file with what the server announced and discarded the package before installing, so the item stays on its current version. The rejection is reported to us automatically. If it happens again, use the item’s contact button.
An update failed
Check the Logs tab for the failure and rollback result. If needed, use Versions to restore an available item snapshot manually. Database changes may need separate attention.
