Description
The Meta Box add-on connects the custom fields created by the Meta Box plugin to Admin Columns Pro, turning any field into a sortable, filterable, and editable column directly in WordPress listings. The integration recognizes the main Meta Box field types — from Text, Number, and Date fields to relational fields like Post, Taxonomy, and User, as well as media (Image Advanced, File Advanced) and geolocation (Map, OpenStreetMap) — and exposes them in the tables of posts, pages, custom post types, users, comments, and taxonomies. It also covers the MB Custom Table, MB Term Meta, MB User Meta, and MB Comment Meta extensions, reaching metadata that sits outside the standard postmeta table. Manage hundreds of records without opening each item individually.
Key Features
- Columns for Meta Box fields: displays any field created by the Meta Box plugin as a column in the admin listings, with support for types like Text, Number, URL, Email, Range, Checkbox, Select, Textarea, WYSIWYG, Color, Date, Date Time, Time, Map, OpenStreetMap, Post, Taxonomy, User, File Advanced, Image Advanced, Video, OEmbed, and KeyValue.
- Inline editing: change the content of Meta Box fields directly in the listing table, without needing to open the editor for each record.
- Bulk editing: applies changes to multiple selected items at once, speeding up repetitive updates.
- Filters and sorting: filters and sorts records by the values of Meta Box fields, including user, comment, and term metadata.
- Export to CSV: sends the column data, including Meta Box fields, to CSV files ready for external analysis.
Meta Box Benefits
- Consolidated view of metadata: brings together custom fields that normally require opening each post into a single navigable table.
- Faster editing: reduces the number of clicks needed to update content, especially on sites with a large volume of records.
- Works with relational data: displays values from Post, Taxonomy, and User fields in a readable way in the columns, instead of raw IDs.
- Coverage beyond post tables: reaches user, comment, and taxonomy listings through the MB User Meta, MB Comment Meta, and MB Term Meta extensions.
Who Is It For?
- Developers and content managers who build custom post types with Meta Box and need to view and edit metadata at scale.
- Editorial teams that maintain catalogs, directories, events, or internal databases in WordPress.
- Agencies that deliver custom admin dashboards for clients and want to offer direct editing in listings.
For those who have already structured the site content with the Meta Box plugin and use Admin Columns Pro as the management foundation, this component fills the gap between custom fields and admin listings. It’s a natural choice for sites with lots of metadata, complex custom post types, and editorial workflows that rely on frequent batch updates. Productivity in the WordPress dashboard now reflects the richness of the registered fields.
