Description
The Dropbox Explorer addon connects your Dropbox account to the Download Manager via OAuth 2.0, opening a full-screen file manager within the WordPress admin with list and grid views, breadcrumb navigation, search, and drag-and-drop upload. Attach cloud files to download packages in just a few clicks, with multi-select via checkboxes, folder creation directly within the picker, and on-demand generated temporary links for the frontend.
Main Features
- Full-screen manager: a complete file interface integrated into the admin, with list and grid modes and breadcrumb navigation between folders.
- OAuth 2.0 authentication: a secure connection to your Dropbox account (free or paid) without exposing credentials in the WordPress database.
- Attachment to package via modal: a window that opens directly in the Download Manager package editor with multi-select via checkboxes to link multiple files at once.
- Upload and folder creation in picker: drag-and-drop upload and new folder creation without leaving WordPress.
- Temporary links on frontend: downloads served by Dropbox signed URLs with automatic expiration, respecting package permissions and user roles.
Benefits of Dropbox Explorer
- Hosting off-server: keeps large files in Dropbox, easing site disk usage and hosting bandwidth consumption.
- Automatic sync: any change made directly in the Dropbox folder reflects in the published packages, without manual re-upload.
- Protected distribution: temporary links prevent hotlinking and indefinite sharing of the raw file.
- Unified workflow: no need to open the Dropbox panel in parallel — all file curation occurs within WordPress.
Who is it for?
- Digital product shops with large catalogs of software, documents, or media.
- Resource centers, document libraries, and member areas that distribute PDFs, videos, and educational materials.
- Teams already using Dropbox who want to reuse their existing folder structure as the site’s file source.
Designed for those who distribute large files and prefer to keep curation in Dropbox, this component eliminates the cycle of downloading from the drive and uploading to WP Media. Compatible with Download Manager 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+, it fits workflows where package-based access control must coexist with scalable external storage.
