Description
When a membership site needs to accept payments through PayPal, PayPal Gateway connects the Paid Memberships Pro checkout to the PayPal gateway, redirecting the charge and returning the transaction status to the signup flow. The integration helps those who sell restricted areas, digital subscriptions, or paid communities include a recognized payment method without rebuilding the membership process from scratch.

Version 1.1.3 2026-09-15
- BUG FIX: Orders created through this gateway now record "PayPal" as the payment type, so the Orders list, the Edit Order page, and member invoices no longer show a blank payment method. #19 (@becleung)
Version 1.1.2 2026-08-11
- ENHANCEMENT: PayPal API error messages now include the offending field path and PayPal's debug ID, so errors like "The value of a field is invalid." identify the invalid field and can be traced with PayPal support. #17 (@flintfromthebasement)
- BUG FIX: Fixed the subscription `start_time` sent to PayPal being labeled with the site's timezone instead of UTC, which could shift the first renewal to the wrong day depending on the checkout time and the site timezone. #16 (@flintfromthebasement)
- BUG FIX: Fixed membership levels set to "check only" in the Pay by Check Add On still displaying the payment method picker when PayPal was configured as a secondary gateway. #13 (@davidmutero)
Version 1.1.1 2026-05-07
- BUG FIX: Fixed a `DECIMAL_PRECISION` error from the PayPal billing API when checking out a recurring level whose initial payment is 0 on a zero-decimal currency (JPY, KRW, VND, UAH, ALL). The setup fee is now formatted via `pmpro_round_price_as_string` so it matches the site currency. #12 (@dparker1005)
Version 1.1 2026-04-27
- FEATURE: Added support for offering PayPal as a secondary payment gateway alongside another primary gateway at checkout. #10 (@dparker1005)

How to install
Automatic updates: this item is updated by the Ultrapack Auto Updater. With it installed, the new version shows up in your dashboard like any other WordPress update (how to set it up).
This item is an add-on for the Paid Memberships Pro plugin. Installed on its own it throws no error, but it does not work either.
- Install and activate the Paid Memberships Pro plugin before this one.
- Download the file
pmpro-paypal.zip. - In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the file
pmpro-paypal.zip, click Install Now and then Activate.
- Both stay active at the same time. Deactivating the Paid Memberships Pro plugin turns this add-on off with it.
- An add-on settings usually show up inside the main plugin screens, not in a menu of their own. If you find nothing new in the dashboard after activating, look there before opening a ticket.
