Elementor Pro license: what the GPL guarantees and what depends on Elementor

The whole plugin is GPL and works without the author's key. The key pays for services: support, updates from their server and whatever runs on the Elementor account.

Licenses and activation

Elementor Pro is distributed under the GPL, the same license as WordPress. This means the plugin’s code can be used, modified, and redistributed, and that everything included in the file works on your site without the developer’s key: the widgets, Theme Builder, forms, popups, and WooCommerce store builder.

What you pay for with an Elementor key is not the code. It is services that run on their end, and that is what you should understand before choosing where to buy.

What works with the file

  • Theme Builder: header, footer, single post, archives, 404 page, and search results edited visually.
  • Forms and popups, with the integrations already included in the plugin.
  • WooCommerce Builder: product page, cart, checkout, and my account.
  • Loop Builder and dynamic fields.
  • Use on as many sites as you want. The GPL does not limit installations.

One detail that gets many people stuck during installation: Pro is an add-on. It requires free Elementor to be installed and active, and deactivating the free version also turns off Pro. The correct order is in the How to install tab on the Elementor Pro page.

What depends on an Elementor license

Support from the developer. Elementor’s support is a service sold with their license and does not carry over with redistribution. Ultrapack support is provided by our own team, in your language, and handles installation, updates, and conflicts with other plugins.

Updates through their server. The new version notification from Elementor requires the key. On our end, new versions reach your dashboard through the Ultrapack Auto Updater, like any WordPress update, and each version shows its date, notes, and antivirus scan on the item page.

Features that run through an Elementor account. Anything that depends on a connected account on Elementor’s servers follows their rules, because the service belongs to them. Activation scenarios are covered in My license won’t activate: what to check.

What if you need the original license?

For those who need official activation, some plans include activation with the original license, and the item page shows when it is available and how to request it. The difference between the two things, the code license and the developer’s service, is explained in What is a GPL license.
