Description
The Relevanssi add-on connects the Relevanssi search engine to FacetWP facets, replacing WordPress native search with an error-tolerant index that supports typo tolerance, stemming, and searching in custom fields. After activation, the facets refine the results generated by Relevanssi, keeping ordering by relevance and highlighting searched terms on the front end of any file, shop page, or directory built with FacetWP.
Key Features
- Search and facet integration
Makes FacetWP filter the results returned by the Relevanssi index instead of the standard WP query. - Error-tolerant search
Uses Relevanssi fuzzy matching and stemming even after applying category, taxonomy, or meta facets. - Relevance-based sorting
Keeps the ranking calculated by Relevanssi in the results filtered by the active facets. - Custom field support
Allows indexing custom fields and taxonomies and cross-referencing that indexing with facets configured in FacetWP. - Compatibility with FacetWP templates
Works in listing templates, files, and shop pages without requiring reconstruction of the existing layout.
Relevanssi integration Benefits
- More accurate search results
Combines facet filtering with relevance ranking, avoiding lists in arbitrary chronological order. - Fewer empty searches
Typo tolerance reduces cases where the visitor gets “no results” due to a swapped letter. - Smooth discovery experience
Visitors refine text searches with side filters without losing the relevance of results. - Reusing existing infrastructure
Anyone already using FacetWP and Relevanssi separately can have them work together without custom code.
Who Is It For?
- WooCommerce stores with extensive catalogs that rely on combined text search and attribute filters.
- Content sites, portals, and magazines that need relevant search crossed with category and tag facets.
- Directories, listings, and listing platforms where search accuracy directly impacts navigation.
For projects that already use FacetWP as a filtering layer and Relevanssi as a search engine, this add-on removes the need for manual hooks to make the two work together. The practical gain is a filtered search experience with real relevance ranking—ideal for dense catalogs, content libraries, and directories where sorting by date simply isn’t enough.

How to install
Automatic updates: this item is updated by the Ultrapack Auto Updater. With it installed, the new version shows up in your dashboard like any other WordPress update (how to set it up).
This item is an add-on for the FacetWP plugin. Installed on its own it throws no error, but it does not work either.
- Install and activate the FacetWP plugin before this one.
- Download the file
facetwp-relevanssi.zip. - In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the file
facetwp-relevanssi.zip, click Install Now and then Activate.
- Both stay active at the same time. Deactivating the FacetWP plugin turns this add-on off with it.
- An add-on settings usually show up inside the main plugin screens, not in a menu of their own. If you find nothing new in the dashboard after activating, look there before opening a ticket.
