Description
The User Post Type add-on converts WordPress users into a custom post type indexable by FacetWP, allowing you to apply search facets, filters, and sorting across your site’s member base. The add-on enables professional directories, team listings, and community pages powered by profile metadata, using the same engine that FacetWP already uses for posts and products.
Key Features
- Users as a custom post type
Each registered user is now treated as an indexable and filterable post by FacetWP. - Compatibility with native facets
Works with checkbox, dropdown, range, autocomplete, search, and other facet types from the base plugin. - Support for profile fields
User metadata becomes available as data sources for building custom filters. - Listings via FacetWP templates
Reuses the loops, templates, and shortcodes from the base plugin to display user results. - Automatic index synchronization
The index is updated whenever a user is created, edited, or removed by WordPress.
Benefits of User Post Type
- Navigable member directories
Creates professional, team, or community pages with the same faceted experience as product catalogs. - Reuse of existing structure
Leverages the engine, facets, and templates already configured, without adding another listing plugin to your project. - Scalability for large databases
Relies on FacetWP’s own index to keep filters fast even with many registered users. - Short learning curve
Anyone already configuring facets for posts and products can apply the same workflow to user profiles.
Who Is It For?
- Community and membership sites that need to display and filter users publicly.
- Professional directories with search by specialty, location, or category.
- Marketplaces and service platforms that list registered providers.
- Teams already using FacetWP who want to extend faceted navigation to their user base.
Designed for projects that treat users as storefront content, the User Post Type add-on fits member sites, communities, and professional directories where faceted search by specialty, location, or category is central to navigation. It makes sense for teams already familiar with FacetWP who want to replicate that experience across their user base without rewriting the listing layer.

How to install
Automatic updates: this item is updated by the Ultrapack Auto Updater. With it installed, the new version shows up in your dashboard like any other WordPress update (how to set it up).
This item is an add-on for the FacetWP plugin. Installed on its own it throws no error, but it does not work either.
- Install and activate the FacetWP plugin before this one.
- Download the file
user-post-type.zip. - In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the file
user-post-type.zip, click Install Now and then Activate.
- Both stay active at the same time. Deactivating the FacetWP plugin turns this add-on off with it.
- An add-on settings usually show up inside the main plugin screens, not in a menu of their own. If you find nothing new in the dashboard after activating, look there before opening a ticket.
