Description
The bbPress add-on links each forum to one or more Paid Memberships Pro membership levels, adding a permissions section to the forum editor to define which levels can view topics, create new discussions, or reply in each space. It is suitable for membership sites that maintain their own discussion community and need to segment content by level, such as paid clubs, courses with an exclusive student forum, or premium support groups.
Key bbPress Features
- Forum-based permissions
Each forum receives its own list of allowed levels, configured individually. - Granular action control
Separately defines who can read, create topics, and submit replies within the forum. - Blocking for visitors and non-members
Hides the forum or displays a restriction message for users without a compatible level. - Custom access message
Allows editing the text displayed when a user tries to access a restricted forum. - Integration into the forum editing screen
The settings panel appears directly in the bbPress editor, without a separate admin screen.
bbPress Benefits
- Community restricted to paying members
Keeps the most valuable discussions circulating only among active members. - Membership plan differentiation
Creates exclusive forums by level, justifying upgrades to higher tiers. - Paid member base retention
Turns the forum into a recurring reason for members to renew their subscriptions. - Direct setup, no code
All configuration takes place through the WordPress dashboard, in just a few clicks per forum.
Who Is bbPress For?
- Those who sell online courses and want to keep a forum for paying students separate from the general public.
- Designed for monthly subscription clubs with a community area restricted to members.
- For those who provide premium support to recurring customers through a private forum for each plan level.
- Those already using Paid Memberships Pro who want to extend access control to bbPress without custom development.
How to Download bbPress
The bbPress add-on is available for download here on Ultrapack. After downloading the .zip file, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, select the file, and activate it. Level-based restriction options will then appear directly on the editing screen for each bbPress forum, ready for immediate configuration.
Designed for membership sites that already operate Paid Memberships Pro and maintain discussion forums as part of their delivery to members, the component brings together two popular WordPress pillars (paid-level control and forum community) without requiring additional code. The result is a native monetization layer on bbPress, where each forum becomes a paid member base retention resource.

- SECURITY: Improved sanitization and escaping throughout the plugin to resolve Plugin Check security findings. #54 (@dparker1005)

- ENHANCEMENT: Visitors without access to a single forum are now redirected to the "Access Restricted" page registered by the PMPro BuddyPress Add On if one is set. Applies on BuddyPress and BuddyBoss sites.

How to install
Automatic updates: this item is updated by the Ultrapack Auto Updater. With it installed, the new version shows up in your dashboard like any other WordPress update (how to set it up).
This item is an add-on for the Paid Memberships Pro plugin. Installed on its own it throws no error, but it does not work either.
- Install and activate the Paid Memberships Pro plugin before this one.
- Download the file
pmpro-bbpress.zip. - In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the file
pmpro-bbpress.zip, click Install Now and then Activate.
- Both stay active at the same time. Deactivating the Paid Memberships Pro plugin turns this add-on off with it.
- An add-on settings usually show up inside the main plugin screens, not in a menu of their own. If you find nothing new in the dashboard after activating, look there before opening a ticket.
