When you maintain several websites, updating everything at once makes problems harder to trace. Organize the routine around risk and dependencies. Automation reduces repetitive work, but each site still needs a way to test and recover the functions that matter to the project.
Start with a simple inventory
Record each site, its owner, installed plugins and themes, versions and essential integrations. Separate stores, membership areas and business websites. Mark file customizations, add-ons dependent on a main plugin and required external services. This helps you decide which sites can follow the same routine.
Choose a first site for testing
Use a representative copy with the same theme, plugins and settings, plus test data. Make a complete backup and update one dependency at a time when investigating compatibility. The testing environment guide helps prepare this step. A passing test on one site does not prove compatibility across every other site.
Decide what can update automatically
Ultrapack Auto Updater works with compatible catalog items and lets you configure updates for enabled items. Check your access’s site limit, the available version and each item’s settings. Do not assume a kit, PHP script or another platform’s item follows the same routine as a WordPress plugin.
Before replacement, UAU saves the item’s files for restoration. This is not a complete database-and-uploads backup. Critical-failure protection also does not check whether a form sent the correct message or a business integration worked. Consult the Auto Updater documentation to configure the expected behavior.
Update in batches and check the result
- Confirm backups, administrative access and a recovery path.
- Apply the update to an initial group of lower-risk sites.
- Check the home page, navigation, login and forms.
- For stores, test products, cart and checkout using test data.
- Record versions, errors and adjustments before the next group.
Prepare for a failure
If an error occurs, pause subsequent batches, record the changes and preserve new data before restoring. Reverting plugin files may be enough in some cases; a database migration needs separate assessment. See what to do when an update breaks a site and how to preserve customizations.
For items needing manual intervention, use the manual update guide. When choosing tools, compare dependencies in the plugin catalog to avoid duplicate functions.
