Description
The BuddyPress addon connects each Paid Memberships Pro subscription level to the BuddyPress social areas, restricting member profiles, activity streams, direct messages, group creation, and directory inclusion according to the contracted plan. Built for anyone who runs a paid WordPress community (courses, closed clubs, discussion groups), the add-on adds a Membership tab to the profile, automatically assigns Member Types, and directs non-members to a configurable restricted access page.
Key Features of BuddyPress
- Granular restriction by level
Blocks profiles, streams, messages, and group creation according to the member’s plan. - Membership tab in the profile
Adds to the BuddyPress profile a private section with user account data. - Member Types mapping
Automatically assigns a BuddyPress Member Type to the contracted PMPro level. - Group control by plan
Enables automatic joining to specific groups based on the subscription level. - Two-way registration flow
Accepts sign-ups via PMPro Checkout or via the native BuddyPress Registration form.
Benefits of BuddyPress
- Monetize the community
Turns an internal social network into recurring revenue tied to subscription levels. - Clear member segmentation
Each plan only sees compatible social content, preventing improper exposure across tiers. - Centralized configuration
All access rules live in the Paid Memberships Pro panel, without editing BuddyPress templates. - Plan-aligned onboarding
The member automatically joins the relevant groups and directories for the contracted level.
Who Is BuddyPress For?
- Anyone running a paid WordPress community with recurring courses, closed clubs, or discussion groups.
- Coaches, mentors, and schools that sell access to an internal social network with private profiles and messages.
- Anyone already running BuddyPress and wants to monetize areas that are currently open (directory, messages, group creation).
- Associations and clubs that need to unlock member directory and activity only for active subscribers.
How to Download BuddyPress
The BuddyPress add-on is available for download here on Ultrapack. After downloading the .zip file, install it in Plugins > Add New > Upload plugin, select the file, and activate it with Paid Memberships Pro and BuddyPress already installed. The new restriction options start appearing within the settings of each membership level.
By bringing profile control, messages, groups, and directory into a single levels panel, the add-on eliminates custom code to lock down BuddyPress social areas by plan. It’s the missing piece for anyone who already charges a subscription via Paid Memberships Pro and wants the community experience to reflect exactly the tier contracted by each user, with no gaps between free and paid members.

How to install
Automatic updates: this item is updated by the Ultrapack Auto Updater. With it installed, the new version shows up in your dashboard like any other WordPress update (how to set it up).
This item is an add-on for the Paid Memberships Pro plugin. Installed on its own it throws no error, but it does not work either.
- Install and activate the Paid Memberships Pro plugin before this one.
- Download the file
pmpro-buddypress.zip. - In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Select the file
pmpro-buddypress.zip, click Install Now and then Activate.
- Both stay active at the same time. Deactivating the Paid Memberships Pro plugin turns this add-on off with it.
- An add-on settings usually show up inside the main plugin screens, not in a menu of their own. If you find nothing new in the dashboard after activating, look there before opening a ticket.
