- Improved compatibility with PHP 8.3, 8.4, and 8.5.
- Performance
- Reduced unnecessary PHP work on frontend requests by deferring admin-only systems and unavailable integrations until they are needed.
- Popup Maker admin screens and the block editor now use lightweight popup choices instead of loading complete popup models for selector controls.
- The block editor now reads Popup Maker's local editor styles directly instead of making internal HTTP requests during page load.
- Improved the Subscribers screen and privacy tools with native count queries, batch-loaded popup titles, indexed email lookups, and faster creation-date sorting on large subscriber tables.
- Reduced redundant popup, Call to Action, and form lookups in bulk actions, feature announcements, form selectors, and Elementor form discovery.
- Popup and form selectors now load only the records they need and avoid priming unused metadata and taxonomy caches.
- Settings CSS previews now load on demand and recover more reliably from incomplete or failed preview responses.
- Failed WordPress.org translation lookups are now briefly cached to prevent repeated requests.
- Fixed the Popup Maker admin toolbar controls not opening or closing popups, checking conditions, or resetting cookies—a regression introduced in 1.24.0.
- Fixed Settings and Tools success notices whose dismiss buttons appeared but did not respond.
- Restored Popup Maker and add-on icons after undocumented changes to the Plugins screen in WordPress 7.1.
- Restored localized package variables in wp-admin so the block editor and other admin tools initialize correctly.
- Fixed a race that could leave popups hidden or skip their animation when multiple Auto Open triggers fired together.
- Prevented malformed batched analytics requests from partially recording popup events.
- Restored WPBakery Page Builder editing for popups when the block editor is enabled in Popup Maker.
- Added a compatibility safeguard for Jetpack synced forms that pass object-valued field attributes into string escaping.
- Prevented Astra Custom Layouts rendered inside popups from corrupting the pending WordPress main loop.
Version 1.24.0 2026-08-03
- Security
- Security and resilience hardening based on continuous AI scanning.
- Hardened Subscribers page pagination URL escaping to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS).
- Features
- Added the free [Popup Maker Debug Tools Chrome extension]
- Added an "Open Popup" click action to the Beaver Builder Button module, so you can open any popup on click without writing custom code. The chosen popup is automatically loaded on the page even if its display conditions wouldn't otherwise match.
- Improvements
- Reorganized the Popup Maker admin menu into clearer creation, audience, performance, and administration groups. The Subscribers page now remains hidden until subscriber storage has been initialized.
- Improved Calls to Action management with instant-opening editors, loading placeholders, draft-first creation that avoids abandoned records, and more reliable saving and sorting.
- Improved compatibility with popular post duplication plugins so cloned popups start with fresh analytics stats and other popup-specific identity data.
- Corrected the plural of "Call to Action" to "Calls to Action" across the admin. Thanks @swinggraphics.
- Added a `popup_maker/overlay_zindex` filter to control the popup overlay's stacking order, so sites can lower it below the WordPress admin bar (or other elements) when needed.
- Fixed pending upgrade notices causing a fatal error on logged-in front-end pages by removing reliance on admin-only form helpers. Closes #1253.
- Fixed generic WordPress editors and page builders receiving 404 responses for Popup and Popup Theme REST collections by exposing standard `wp/v2` aliases while preserving Popup Maker's versioned API.
- Fixed Gravity Forms inside popups no longer submitting via AJAX (regression since 1.21.0), which broke text confirmations and Form Submission triggers after submit.
- Improved keyboard focus when closing popups: focus returns to the previously focused element, or to the top of the document when there wasn't one (auto-open popups) or it no longer exists. Thanks @swinggraphics.
- Fixed Click Open "Extra Selectors" starting with a number (e.g. `.2026-selector`) being rejected as invalid. Selectors are now validated against jQuery's engine, which handles the actual matching.
- Fixed a bug where a popup could unexpectedly lose its triggers, conditions, and display settings — leaving only its theme — after saving, a plugin update, or when another plugin or page builder saved the popup. Saves that would erase an existing popup's settings are now prevented and report an error instead of silently discarding your configuration.
- Fixed CTA Button blocks losing button content during transforms, clearing links while CTA data loaded, and reporting validation errors for blocks saved by previous versions.
- Fixed non-AJAX form submissions being attributed to the wrong popup—or no popup—and improved Newsletter and Beaver Builder conversion tracking reliability.
- Fixed disabled or unpublished Calls to Action continuing to render or process clicks.
- Fixed Popup Category and Tag filters not retaining their selected values and interfering with popup bulk actions.
- Fixed bundled translations not loading correctly and plural translations receiving incorrect arguments.
- Fixed the Easy Modal v2 importer crashing because its bundled files were loaded from outdated paths.
- Fixed “Previous Opens” showing incorrectly after resetting popup analytics.
Version 1.23.0 2026-06-28
- Security
- Additional hardening based on continuous AI scanning.
- Features
- Added a "Preview Popup" option to the block editor's Preview menu, matching the classic editor. It opens the popup on the front end in a dedicated tab; clicking it again reuses that same tab, and saving the popup automatically refreshes the open preview so you always see your latest changes.
- Added "Disable URL tracking parameters" privacy setting. When enabled, popup links no longer get `?pid=` appended — link clicks are tracked via browser beacons instead (less reliable but non-invasive to URLs).
- Improvements
- The popup editor now remembers the last-open settings tab per popup instead of sharing a single tab across all popups, so each popup reopens to the tab you last used.
- Fixed the "Preview" button in the classic editor not opening popups — a regression introduced in 1.22.0. You can once again preview popups directly from the editor without having to save and view the live page, now reliably regardless of how quickly the page finishes loading. Thanks to @marklchaves for the fix.
- Fixed missing styles for Popup Maker blocks on the front end in some installs — blocks now render with the correct styling without a console warning about a missing stylesheet.
- Fixed "Disable popup open tracking" privacy setting now disables link tracking parameters appended and click beacon tracking.
- Fixed PHP bug in `pum_get_asset_group_meta` where `(array) file_exists` always evaluated as truthy, causing fatal errors when build artifacts were missing.
- Fixed condition dropdowns (such as "Categories", "Tags", and other taxonomy selectors) showing duplicate entries and hiding some terms when you had more than ten — every term is now listed once and reachable as you scroll.
- Fixed popups taller than the browser window having their top cut off above the screen, which made the start of the content and the close button impossible to reach. Tall popups now keep their top edge in view.
- Fixed an invalid "Extra Selectors" value on a Click Open trigger breaking all popup triggers on the page. A malformed selector is now skipped (with a console notice) instead of stopping every trigger from working.
- Fixed ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) shortcodes not displaying their values inside popups since ACF 6.3.4, which stopped resolving `[acf]` shortcodes on non-public content. ACF shortcodes now render in popup content again.
Version 1.22.0 2026-03-31
- Features
- Added link click conversion tracking for external and special links (mailto:, tel:, etc.) within popups. Clicks are tracked via analytics beacon and categorized by link type for conversion reporting.
- Added [Beaver Builder Forms integration]
- Added [Bit Form integration]
- Added [Elementor Pro Forms integration]
- Added [Forminator integration]
- Added [HappyForms integration]
- Added [HTML Forms integration]
- Added [Kali Forms integration]
- Added Newsletter plugin (thenewsletterplugin.com) form integration for success detection and conversion tracking. Note: Newsletter forms must use `[newsletter_form ajax="true"]` shortcode to enable AJAX submission mode for the integration to work.
- Improvements
- Popup title field is now editable in the Block Editor sidebar, matching the classic editor experience.
- URL tracking parameter names (`pid`, `cta`, `notrack`) are now filterable via `popup_maker/param_name/{key}`, allowing site admins to resolve conflicts with other plugins. Example: `add_filter( 'popup_maker/param_name/popup_id', function { return 'pum_id'; } );`
- Improved PID tracking reliability by firing template_redirect at priority 0, ensuring tracking occurs before other plugins that might redirect.
- Enhanced all Popup list views with sortable Enabled column and bulk enable/disable actions for easier management of multiple popups.
- Block library assets (CSS) loading unnecessarily on all front-end pages. WordPress now automatically loads these styles only when Popup Maker blocks are actually rendered.
- Enhanced ad-blocker bypass feature to obfuscate script and style element IDs (in addition to filenames) for improved bypass reliability. IDs now consistently use per site settings using either MD5 hashing or custom prefixes.
- Fixed popup preview not opening due to admin_debug trigger firing before initialization completed. Closes #1181.
- Fixed animation speed field allowing negative and excessively large values via manual text input. Closes #1053.
- Fixed Gravity Forms integration fatal error when saving Close Popup or Open Popup settings. Closes #1084.
- Fixed CTA shortcode buttons rendering as plain links instead of styled buttons, with proper support for fill, outline, and text-only styles in both classic and block editor popups.
- Fixed mailto: and tel: links inside popups being incorrectly modified with tracking parameters, which broke email and phone links.
- Fixed Fluent Forms integration fatal error when using double opt-in. Closes #1094.
- Fixed Time Delay trigger settings tab displaying blank when switching from Click Trigger advanced tab. Closes #1109.
- Fixed trigger modal "Add" button label not displaying due to incorrect i18n function usage. Props to @DAnn2012.
- Fixed Divi 4 block editor compatibility issue where the popup editor would fail to load when the block editor was enabled. The classic editor is now automatically enforced for Divi 4 users.
- Fixed issue where filter `replace_editor` was being used as an action without returning the value.
- Fixed Subscribers page sort columns throwing 404 errors due to malformed URLs with double protocols
- Fixed SQL syntax error on Subscribers page caused by using identifier placeholder instead of string placeholder in `SHOW TABLES LIKE` query.
Version 1.21.5 2025-10-13
- Improvements
- Optimized Google Fonts integration by eliminating database transients and API calls in favor of direct JSON loading with in-memory caching. This resolves reported database crashes from large font data and improves performance by 83% (file size reduced from 1.5MB to 255KB) while eliminating all database overhead.
- Fixed accessibility tab trapping JavaScript error "trigger is not a function" when using keyboard navigation in popups.
- Fixed potential error when get_current_screen is not available.
